Beginning Monday, September 21 (7-8:30 PM) and continuing each Monday through October 26, we will be offering a six-week discipleship program titled Counter Culture. This study by David Platt helps us to discover how Christians should respond to the social issues of our day—realities such as poverty, slavery, abortion, sexual immorality, the degradation of marriage, the neglect of orphans and widows, racism, and persecution.

This study is for all Christians high school and above, for those going through intense circumstances and acute challenges as well as for those looking to truly grow in their faith in Jesus Christ. This study is not for “casual observers.” There is work to be done each week in response to and in preparation for our weekly meetings. Participation in Counter Culture will require a commitment to the study, to your weekly attendance at the study, to your fellow participants, but most of all to the God Who’s truly given us redemption through his Son, Jesus Christ.

Here are a few other things to remember about Counter Culture…

• Our weekly meetings for Counter Culture are not a replacement for our regular Life Groups. There is a different purpose to Life Groups than to Counter Culture. In Life Groups, we almost always split our time evenly between discipleship and fellowship, which are both VITAL to your growth in Jesus Christ, and that’s why we encourage all of people to be a part of one of our adult life groups (if you’d like more information on life groups at Gateway, click here!). In Counter Culture, however, the great majority of our time will be spent in discipleship. That’s not to say that we won’t have times of fellowship, but we will lean heavily toward helping you grow in your faith through practical learning and discipleship. If this is something you want to do, we welcome you to come along with us.

• Everyone participating in Counter Culture MUST have his/her own workbook. We will provide workbooks at the cost $8 (that’s about half of what you would be paying if you bought it on your own!) Please pay for and pick up your workbook here at church no later than Sunday, September 20.

• You do not have to be a member of or regular attendee at Gateway Community Church events to be a part of Counter Culture.

• We thank you for securing your own childcare during the six weeks of Counter Culture. If several want to go in together to engage and share the services of a babysitter, we can probably point you in the direction of a reliable off-campus sitter.
